BiographyAbout Giani Lincan Giani Lincan took great honors for his recitals. His virtuosity is matched by his understanding of, and respect for his heritage. A graduate of the prestigious Academy of Music George Enescu in Bucharest he has toured the world, melting the hearts of audiences with his performance. As a guest cymbalist, Giani Lincan together with Munich Philharmonic Orchestra received a special honor medal of the famous composer and conductor SERGIU CELIBIDACHE in Germany. As a jazz cimbalom player, Giani Lincan performed next to great artists like Didier Lockwood, Biréli Lagrène, Tchavolo Schmitt, Angelo Debarre, Boulou & Elios Ferré, and Philip Catherine. Giani Lincan is going to scare the hell out of some people, hammering with demonic speeds. Biography Giani Lincan was born in a famous Romanian family, well-known for their long standing ties with traditional gipsy music. He received his first lesson on the cimbalom from his grandfather in 1971 at the age of five. In 1975, he was offered the exceptional opportunity to continue his cimbalom studies with the renowned Romanian cimbalom players Mitica Marinescu Ciuciu and Toni Iordache. From 1989 until 1998 he developed his skills in Bucharest, at the celebrated institute “George Enescu” where he studied cimbalom with Marin Ulei. There he was certified as a professional teacher of music.Being an accomplished artist at an early age, he performed during those years both as a soloist and as a member of various orchestras. His musical achievements are by no means confined to classical music only, as he developed into a player of folk music, jazz and gipsy music as well. In this way, Giani Lincan not only secured a unique degree of virtuosity but an outstanding stylistic versatility as well. Both in classical music as well as in jazz his performance displays a unique style. He makes improvisations, compositions and arrangements. As a universal musician, with an inimitable sound and a clear musical individuality, he offers his audience a performance of uncommon and memorable quality.He won various awards and prizes, participated in many outstanding festivals, appeared on numerous podiums. The number of cd released and produced in his musical career testifies for his unusual musical talents and his marvelous virtuosity. Among the recent events where he was awarded are the International Gipsy Festival in Tilburg, the Dutch Gipsy Road Show, the Festival International de Patrimonio in France (Haute- Corse), the Hungarian Sziget International Festival, the JAAZ GOES TO TOWN event in Prague, etc. At the moment, he is associated professor at the School of Music, CKC, in Zoetermeer, the Netherlands where he teaches cimbalom and Balkan music.
